Alstom said if it wins the contract to build HS2 trains it can make single decker tilting trains Phase 1 London to Glasgow/Edinburgh and non-tilting double decker trains Phase 2 London to Manchester/Leeds.At least one Scottish politician MSP has complained that non-tilting HS2 trains will slow down tilting Virgin Pendolino trains on the West Coast Main Line.I think all the train manufactures have built tilting trains so I don`t understand why HS2 Ltd didn`t insist on tilting trains.
The only downside with tilting trains is the higher maintenance costs which will be high for 250 mph trains anyway, this is the reason why CrossCountry disabled the tilting mechanisim on the BR Class 221 Super Voyager trains.
H S 2 should be cancelled right now before anymore money is wasted on it.
