The steam train service running along a length of old Central line tube train tracks up at Epping is seeking funds to install a new railway bridge.

Untitled-1

At the moment, passengers changing platforms at North Weald — which is the main station on the line — are required to get between them by walking across the tracks, which causes delays, as understandably, that is only possible when the train isn’t steaming towards them.

They already have the bridge, which is actually from Woodford train station on the Central Line – dating from when it was the Great Eastern Railway – and was donated by Ongar Railway Preservation Society a few years ago.

It’s now in place where you would expect a railway bridge to be, but it doesn’t have any steps!

Hence the fund raising.

Any individual, business, group or other party wishing to make a generous donation, is invited to get in touch.

And as they note, not only will this bridge ease platform changes, but it will also add a new vantage point for photographers, from where the majority of the Station will be viewable, and for the train movements and Station activity can be seen

And of course, then you can stand on a small footbridge as the steam train passes underneath and surrounds you in wreaths of smoke, which will be an exciting thrill.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you
