The Night Overground services are being extended to Highbury & Islington from next Friday (23rd Feb), also linking the Overground to the Night Tube network on the Victoria line for the first time.
Currently, the Night Overground, which was launched last December runs between New Cross Gate and Dalston Junction. The service extension from next week adds two additional stations – Canonbury and Highbury & Islington.
The current Night Overground timetable as published was due to be valid until 19th May 2018, which fitted in with the previous announcement that the service extension would be occurring in “the spring”. The launch of the extension next Friday is therefore unexpectedly early.

Jonathan Fox, TfL’s Director of London Rail and Sponsored Services, said: “The extension of Night Overground to Highbury & Islington will make life easier for thousands more Londoners and visitors, opening up a new late night connection between east and north London and boosting the night time economy. It builds on the great success of the Night Overground services we introduced last year, which have already seen more than 30,000 customers.
Due to Crossrail work taking place at Whitechapel station, London Overground night services will not call at the station until later this summer. All Night Overground stations except Shadwell and Wapping also have connecting night buses.
Sounds good. But what if the Overground night service could extend to West Croydon, Clapham Junction, Crystal Palace and New Cross and also to operate night services on the North London Line between Stratford-Richmond, West London Line between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction and maybe the night services on the Overground to operate on the Euston-Watford Line, Gospel Oak-Barking Line and Liverpool St-Chingford, Cheshunt and Enfield Town Lea Valley lines.
That isn’t possible without clearance from network rail and timetables paths hence it only going to new cross and Highbury and I/ Dalston Junction..
That is all very well but we have no tfl tube on the Overground system below New Cross and there are no overnight Southern Services either, so it sounds to me like someone is not trying very hard…
ONLY if the maintenance schedule for all of those lines can be erm, aligned to fit, which is easier said than done …

TfL still gets its maps wrong. The Night map for underground does not show any overground night services . a new one picked up yesterday does not show existing Dalston to New Cross. TfL must make their maps show ALL railway services not just those that they own our partly own. Completely inconsistent and mad.
The Night Tube map issued last December does show the Overground on it.
