I am currently feeling somewhat ill (big aww!) and whenever I am ill, I tend to consume fairly large quantities of Heinz Mulligatawny soup. It is the only time I ever eat tinned soup – and I will only ever have that spicy beef curry soup.

So you can imagine my horror when stumbling out over the past few days to get provisions that none of my local supermarkets seem to stock it anymore – or somehow all ran out of it at the same time.

Being ill is bad enough – without my staple foods being unavailable as well.

I am not sure quite why it is that I seem to have this hunger for beef curry soup when ill, although when I was in hospital a few years ago and talked about this very issue with some nurses they pointed out that it is quite a common thing for people to prefer much spicier foods – something to do with the tastebuds going on strike during fevers etc.

Maybe I can get some soup on the NHS if that is the case?

In the meantime – would my local supermarkets kindly get some soup back in stock please.

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

WOW! I have never ever seen that outside of a British Army ration pack.

I thought it something invented for squaddies.

You will be telling me you can get dead fly biscuits in Tesco’s next

  2. Bazza says:

Have you tried the Co Ops own brand Mulligatawny soup? Its better than Heinz much more hotter and I usually eat two tins at a time! Im sure they sell Garibaldi biscuits in tescos!

  3. IanVisits says:

To be honest, I haven’t seen a branch of Co-Op for years.

If it wasn’t for the TV adverts I wouldn’t know they still existed.

Where can I purchase heinz mulligatawny soup in the USA?

    • IanVisits says:

This (very old) blog post was about the difficulty I am having buying the soup in the UK – how on earth am I supposed to know where to buy it in the USA?

I can concur with your sentiments over Heinz Mulligatawny soup.

I’ve had the same trouble with Campbells Haggis Soup. Initially, I could only source it at Morrison’s Supermarkets and generally purchased at least ten tins.

Now I can’t source it anywhere, not even in Scotland, having tried Scottish, Tesco’s, Co-op, Morrrison’s and local grocers!

Certainly Mulligatawny Soup was another favourite of mine and could be used in so many aspects of cooking. Try boiling some rice in it.

Have you emailed Heinz asking them what stores in your area might stock it, or whether they still make it. Great shame if it’s disappeared! Nothing quite like it.
