The glowing monsters were created by Designs in Air – an inflatable design company.
Luke Egan of Designs in Air said: “I love to make the world a more surreal and colourful place. I hope to get people to look up from their phones and do the double take. It’s one thing to paint a surreal picture but to actually put an out-of-place object into the world is another level of experience, and with a pop-up installation, instantly transforming the everyday environment, it really takes people by surprise.”
Is the council paying for them?
I hope not
The Council couldn’t afford one, let alone eight!
No, it says they were funded by Croydon BID, i.e. funded by larger local businesses – https://croydonbid.com/about/how-are-we-funded
No, it is Croydon Business Improvement District – a consortium of local businesses. There is no cost to the council tax payer.
How about revamping the town center shops and restaurants so people can actually get something out of their visits rather than this rubbish – oh and spending nearly 50k on a business unit to ask residents of Croydon for their opinions is a joke after the millions you have already wasted
This is good fun for the kids, but I do hope this hasn’t been subsidised by Croydon Council! The brown stuff has already hit the fan with the amount of money wasted on random rubbish..
Though a nice idea, Croydon is like an episode of the walking dead vs the army of the dead and know amount of glowing monsters is going to help with the fact that Croydon is vacant and run down because the council has let it get that way! even before the pandemic hit Croydon High Street was rundown and in need of investment.
Maybe the council can rent the town centre to Netflix for a zombie flick and recoup some of the money they have wasted.
They already did that, it was called Black Mirror – Bandersnatch.
Well I like them. Reminds me of the Pete Fowler artwork for Super Furry Animals back in the day.
Great fun! They could have included the inflatable baby Trump too and given that an outing perhaps. It pleases me that people still do stuff like this.
