The View from The Shard is having a couple of early morning openings for photographers, and will be relaxing the usual ban on tripods and other heavy equipment that are not permitted during normal open hours.

The mornings are at 8am on the 22nd and 29th March.

Frustratingly, that’s too late in the morning to catch sunrise, but for dedicated photographers, it is a reasonably rare chance to lug heavy equipment to the top and get higher quality photos than most of us get away with.

Commercial photography needs a separate permit.

Cost is £29.50 and booked via this website. The venue normally opens at 10am, so that is a couple of hours of photography.

Alternatively, I’d recommend a lunchtime visit on the 14th June, as the view will be ever so slightly different.

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.
