About ianVisits
A popular London website focused on a range of topics, but mainly architecture, transport, history and things to do around the city. The more obscure the better.
What I don’t write about are — for example — fashion, clothing, pop-up shops or general consumer fluff.
Basically, have a look at the website, it should be clear what I am going to be writing about.
About the events listing calendar
The calendar aims to list the less commercial events, heritage, tours and mostly, the astonishing array of free (or cheap) lectures that the societies and universities of London provide. They really are, in my opinion, a little known and underused facility for Londoners.
There is a facility for people to submit events to the calendar — subject to moderation approval, and please check the events guide to see what sort of things are likely to be approved first. Yes to offbeat, interesing and quirky, no to corporate functions, fashion pop-ups, or music (plenty of music listings magazines out there).
Weekly newsletter
Two emails per week are sent to newsletter subscribers, with a round-up of the latest news articles, and a listing of special events happening in London the following week.
Support this website
Apart from the time it takes to produce, the website also has running costs in hosting, email newsletters, etc. While advertising revenue contributes to funding the website’s costs, these days, online advertising is a rapidly shrinking way for websites to cover their costs.
That is why I have a facility with DonorBox, where you can support the website’s costs and the time invested in writing and researching the news articles.
Thank you
Reviews
ianVisits aims to be an impartial place to read about what’s on in London, and I accept requests for reviews that may lead to an article on the website.
Press preview visits to galleries and museums to review exhibitions are welcomed, as are behind-the-scenes visits to write about venues or locations of interest. I do not guarantee a review will be written, as sometimes it can be hard to write about something, nor will I ever offer any form of editorial control – a review is written based on my genuine opinion.
Competitions
I run occasional competitions on the website and are clearly marked as such.
Entries will be by email address (and if necessary other details), and I offer entrants options to register for the ianVisits newsletter and to be contacted by the competition provider. In line with GDPR, such subscriptions are optional and cannot be mandatory.
Email databases of people entering competitions are destroyed after the prizes are awarded. I keep winners details on file as required by UK competition law. In line with industry practice, all links on competition pages have to be “nofollow” links.
Advertising
Display advertising on the website is managed via an exclusive agreemeent with Snack Media, a leading London based online advertising agency. You can contact them at [email protected] and 020 7272 7582.
Some links in articles and event listings will click through via an affiliate revenue link, and purchases may earn an income for the website. The presence of an affiliate link is not an endorsement, nor is editorial content affected by the opportunity for such a link.
Sponsored links and guest blog pitches
I do NOT accept guest/paid/sponsored blog posts or links. Never.
