Ongar station, once part of the Central line has a small art gallery inside it now, and their first exhibition of the year is appropriately about trains. The gallery is in the former Ladies Waiting Room at the station.

The Penny Salon Gallery at Ongar Station’s exhibition is of nearly 100 framed images, with a diesel theme, mainly covers over five decades from the 1960s onwards, though steam does occasionally appear in a supporting role.

The exhibiton runs through April, and will be replaced in May with a display of photos about the “Heyday of London Transport”.

This is followed by a showing of mainly limited edition prints, with an Eastern Counties theme, from the inspirational locally based transport artist, and Fellow of the Guild of Railway Artists, Malcolm Root. For one weekend only, and showing over the 9 and 10 June, during the Annual Steam Gala at the Epping Ongar Railway.

July sees an extra one-off exhibition that will utilise material from Reg Batten’s many forays into Essex from well over 50 years ago, and which features many photographs never seen in an exhibition before as we host “A Plethora of Public Houses and Pub Signs”.

The Penny Salon Gallery at Ongar Station is free to visit whenever trains from the Epping Ongar Railway are running.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

Loving the artwork at the former Ongar Railway Station. That once was part of the Central Line. I do like the Epping-Ongar Railway. Been there about 3 times in my life.
