The annual Open Doors event is back, offering a peek behind the hoardings that cover up building sites.
It’s aimed at encouraging people to consider construction as a future career choice but is open to everyone.
Think of it as a sort of Open House Weekend, but with hi-vis jackets.
The industry has an image that is externally somewhat unfair, and while it still has its painters and decorators, much of the work these days is far more skilled, and paid accordingly. It’s Open Door’s aim to shake off the “loads-a-money” image, and show off the technical expertise that a modern building requires from its constructors.
The list of venues will be updated constantly in the run-up to the event, but you might want to keep an eye on the website regularly as some are already “sold out”.
