The semi-annual Open Doors event is back after a slightly longer than usual gap, offering a peek behind the hoardings that cover up building sites.
It’s aimed at encouraging people to consider construction as a future career choice, but is open to everyone.
A bit like Open House Weekend, but with hi-vis jackets.
The industry an image which externally somewhat unfair, and while it still has its painters and decorators, much of the work these days is far more skilled, and paid accordingly. It’s Open Door’s aim to shake off the “loads-a-money” image, and show off the technical expertise that a modern building requires from its constructors.
Projects that will be opening their doors include London’s Design Museum, a Proton Beam Therapy Centre in Manchester, a children’s hospital in Edinburgh and a new school and sports facility in south Wales.
The list of venues will be updated constantly in the run up to the event, but the first batches have been released an in London, include:
