Later this month, there will be an exceptionally rare chance to walk through the mothballed Post Office Railway tunnels.
Under plans for The Postal Museum, due to open at the end of 2016, visitors will be able to take a train ride through a section of the tunnels for the first time in its history… and as part of the Bloomsbury Festival you have the opportunity to explore this hidden treasure on foot, before it opens to the public.
Don your hard hat and join us for a torch-lit walk through part of this subterranean network. From the old maintenance depot where trains were brought for in-house repairs, down 70 feet below the surface to the abandoned station at Mount Pleasant, this bespoke curator-led tour will reveal how the railway kept the country’s mail moving for more than three quarters of a century, and the plans for its future.
There are three walks — on Friday 23rd October at 4pm, 6pm & 8pm
Tickets cost £15 (plus £2.50 booking fee).
