A small rarely opened museum filled with a huge Victorian testing machine has secured a 2 month extension on its lease offering potentially just a few more chances to visit.
The Kirkaldy Testing Museum is open on the first Sunday of the month, but has been under threat of having to leave its historic Southwark home for some time.
The location is significant as the museum occupies the ground floor of the original building that was constructed to house the massive testing machine back in 1874, and while the upper floors are now offices, the lease on the ground floor appears to be in peril.
An upgrade of the English Heritage listing for the building may help a little in preserving the location of the testing machine in its original home.
If not, then it is likely that the 6th July and 3rd August will be the last chances to see not just this machine, but also the entire collection of materials testing machines that have been built up over the years.
There will be guided tours at 11am, noon, 2pm and 3pm and the tour takes about 1 hour. [map link]
