What started in 2012 as an interesting idea is back again this year as they were right about it being interesting, and popular.
Basically a few days where lots of science people give talks about science things, but do so in pubs.
The Pint of Science festival takes place in a number of London pubs between 19th-21st May, and tickets have to be booked in advance. Based on the popularity last year, they are likely to sell out fast.
They are presenting on four topics:
- Matters of the Mind (neurosciences and psychology)
- Understanding our Bodies (life sciences)
- Chemistry & Physics
- Planet Earth (earth sciences)
There are, at the moment, 48 talks taking place, which is quite a lot to cram into three days, even for the most dedicated science/beer fan.
The full list can be found here.
Each talk cost £2.20, plus the cost of beer when you arrive.
Due to the timings, as they all take place in the evening, a lengthy pub-crawl between different venues getting slowly more drunk as the science wears on is not possible. Which may be a good thing, depending on your stamina.
Outside London, there are matching events in strange provincial places called Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester, Bristol, York, Bath, and Glasgow.
