Just a heads up about this event as it needs booking, and I suspect tickets might go fast.
Of the 270 stations on the underground network, more than 40 were designed by architect Charles Holden. His Piccadilly line stations including Arnos Grove, Sudbury Town and Southgate are regarded as modernist icons and their importance is reflected by their listed status.
As part of the tube’s 150th anniversary, this is chance to attend a guided tour lead by London Underground’s Design & Heritage Manager, Mike Ashworth, who you may have seen on telly occasionally whenever London Underground’s heritage is being discussed.
He is this time though leading the public on a tour of the architect Charles Holden’s iconic 1930s Tube stations at the northern end of the Piccadilly line.
Tickets can be booked here — the tour takes place on Saturday the 10th August, and in the afternoon (not the middle of the night as the booking page suggests — alas). Tickets are free, although I presume a travel card/oyster card will be needed.
Note that due to the heritage nature of the stations included on the tour, they do not have step-free access.
Sold out 54 minutes after this posted!
Free tickets all “sold out” but I bet because they are free half the ticketholders don’t turn up. Really annoying.
