Fancy joining an archaeology dig on the Crossrail site? Well, as it happens they are looking for trowel wielding volunteers for a bit of Time Teamesque activity in Stepney later this month.
No, not down in the tunnel depths, as those are far below the archaeological layer but at the site of a Crossrail construction site where archaeologists revealed the remains of Worcester House in 2011.
Worcester House was a manor house constructed by the Marquis of Worcester in 1597, and the remains of other ancillary buildings have also been found on the site.

They’ll be carrying out more digs of an archaeological nature later this month, and volunteers are being sought to help out. No experience with a trowel or brush is needed.
During the week-long dig, they expect to reveal a moat surrounding the remains of a Tudor manor house built c 1450-1550.
The dig will take place next to the Stepney Green worksite, between Tuesday 23 July – Saturday 27 July.
Spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of 6 volunteers per session. Each session lasts half a day.
