Nope, not a mistake in their calendar where the generic “open on Saturday” is accidentally left in place, but a proper, special opening for Christmas Day.

Considering the strong association with the traditional White Christmas and the novel, A Christmas Carol, it is probably not a surprise to learn it is the Charles Dickens Museum that is throwing open its doors.

The Museum will present itself in seasonal greenery and authentic Christmas decoration as described by the English writer. We will offer mulled wine and mince pies on cold December days and you can relax listening to readings from Dickens’s Christmas stories. Presentations of classic movie adaptations of A Christmas Carol will run throughout the day.

The Museum will be open from 11am to 6pm. The admission fee of £14 (£6 with concessions) includes complimentary Christmas delicatessen, a gift pack, access to the Christmas exhibition and special events.

If you can get there on the day that public transport shuts down, then the museum is in Bloomsbury, just north of Holborn. (google map)

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

It looks lovely, shame that’s too far to walk!

    Boris Bike!

  3. Still a bit of a walk to get to the nearest BB! Although if it’s a sunny day it could be very pleasant along the river…

Yes, I’ll probably take the riverside walk – but I’m not really safe on a bike. Although there’s not likely to be a quieter traffic day to try it…
