Although free to go in for worshippers, those who are more interested in the architecture than the function of St Paul’s Cathedral have to pay to get inside its stony walls. A full £12.50 per adult no less.
This Saturday though, as part of the Lord Mayor’s celebrations, entry will be completely free of charge, which makes it worth a visit, if you can get through the crowds watching the procession.
They also have Jo Brand doing a reading of Prokofiev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’ accompanied by the Cathedral Organ at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
I suspect most will go for a chance to wander around the building and go up to the dome for the fine views of the city, or the bulbous monstrosity that is the new One New Change shopping centre.
I had a guided tour of the upper levels a few years ago, but wouldn’t mind going back for a more sedate wander around the public areas. Sadly I wont be able to take advantage of the free entry offer – as I am off to see some BIG SHINY SCIENCE at the UK’s synchrotron just outside Didcot. Which is pretty exciting though.
