This weekend, the annual London to Brighton car rally takes place – starting at the obscene hour of 7am on a Sunday morning.
Fortunately for sluggards like myself, there is also a chance to see about a hundred of the 570 pre-1905 vintage cars taking part on Sunday, as they line up on Regents Street on Saturday 6th November between 11am and 3pm.
The display will include drivers and passengers in period costume plus demonstration drives around Vigo Street and Conduit Street.
Regent Street will also be the venue for the finish of the inaugural Brighton to London Future Car Challenge, where over fifty 21st Century electric, hybrid and low-emission ICE vehicles will be challenged to use the lowest energy on the same LBVCR 60 mile route but in reverse from Brighton to London.
The rally itself – originally set up to celebrate the abolition of a law that required a man to walk in front of a car carrying a red flag – then takes place on the following morning, Sunday 7th.
A not very accurate map (pdf file) of the route is available on their website, as they pass from Hyde Park Corner, down to Westminster Bridge, through Lambeth and down to Norbury and then Croydon and further South down towards Brighton.
There is also a chance to win a seat in next year’s rally, by entering a photo competition.
I have to correct you in saying it is not a rally, but a run.
I agree, its a crap map for spectators to work out how to see the cars.
