Tours of a Tall Sailing Ship by Tower Bridge

This morning as I worked from home, I saw this from the balcony.

This afternoon I wandered into town to visit a (closed) museum and noticed the sailing ship is moored up by Tower Bridge. Later, I get home and find the following message in my emails:

Today, Friday 3rd September, sees the arrival of the beautiful Fryderyk Chopin Ship, which will be moored at St. Katharine’s Pier until Monday 13th September.

She was built in 1990 and is one of the largest and fastest sailing ships in her class – and is based on the designs of brigs favoured by pirates centuries ago due to her speed and efficiency.

The ship is here in London as the last stop in a seven nation tour to celebrate the 200th year of the world famous composer Fryderyk Chopin’s birth. The aim of the team bringing the ship to St Katharine Docks is to spread an understanding of Polish culture and a love of the music of Chopin.

The ship is open to members of the public to tour so make sure you take the time to pop down to the Pier and have a look around this remarkable vessel which is open every day between 11am and 6pm.

Thanks for the lack of notice – but there you are, a tour of a tall sailing ship is available for the next few days. I suspect tours are free as it is part of a PR event for Polish tourism/Chopin, but I can’t confirm that as the email/website doesn’t say, and had I known about this earlier, I could have checked when I walked past it this afternoon.

Oh well.
