While tickets to visit most of the favoured venues for Open House London 2010 were snapped up within just a few minutes, tickets for the highly coveted chance to visit the top of the BT Tower are being allocated by a digital name out of the hand draw.

Sadly, the venue is only open for a few hours (Sun 19th Sept: 12noon-5.30pm) so the chance of getting a ticket may be quite slim. Worth trying though.

Applications will be accepted from today and closes Mon 13 Sept 5pm.

You are allowed to apply for two tickets per booking.

Give full names, addresses, email, tel of each person in the application. Applications without full info won’t be considered.

Successful applicants will notified in writing and this will be the ticket for entry – so the only way you’ll know if you got tickets is if a letter arrives in the post – which is relying on the postal service to be unusually efficient in their efforts.

I would have thought an email to all the applications confirming winning/losing status would have been sensible, especially as the booking closes just a few days before the visits takes place. Oh well.

Fire off your bidding email to bt-tower@open-city.org.uk

If you get a ticket, you will also need a Photo ID: valid passport (any nationality) valid EU identity card, driving licence (photo card). Strictly no admittance without ticket and photo ID.

Good luck!

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

Oh, damn. Valid passport. Husbands has run out.. and he doesn’t drive. Bang goes that idea.

Bugger, photo ID!!! Passport ran out 6 years back and my driving licence doesn’t have a photo. Is this just another way to force us all to get ID cards?

  3. Steve says:

Sure, the scheme may well be scrapped, but doesn’t mean they don’t wanna still track us all. It’s things like this, where we have no alternative but to have an ID card, that will creep in over time via the back door. In the last week alone, I have been requested to show photo ID for buying alcohol, I’m 44. and for opening a bank account with a bank I already have an account with. Without photo ID I can do neither.

I suspect that if you turn up with an (not too) out of date passport they still might let you in, i doubt they’d be studying the date – i wouldn’t let it stop me entering the ballot anyways. just take lots of other ID stuff with you.

btw, when i emailed them early this morning and got an auto-response thus:
“This email address is accepting ballot entries from Monday 16 August until Monday 15 September at 5pm.

Unfortunately applications outside of these dates cannot be accepted and your email will be deleted, and if you have applied before 16th August you will need to reapply.”

is this what everyone got? i’m wondering if i emailed them when they were still shut…

As I guess it, that reply means they hadn’t opened the email address to accepting applications – it seems they switched over later than expected in the morning.

Send another and it should read “This email address is accepting ballot entries from now until Monday 15 September at 5pm.”

cheers Ian. will do… with a careful explanation that i’m not trying to enter twice!
