I recently signed up to a newsletter offered by a venue in London to keep abreast of their events lest any of them would be worth adding to my listings guide.

Alas, they were one of those organisations who seem to think that if you are interested in latest events news, then you must be interested in absolutely every single thing they have to say about themselves. Umm, nope!

Having already once clicked on the unsubscribe link for that specific newsletter and continued to receive emails, I finally decided today to click on the “unsubscribe from everything” button. The process was simple, a quick click of the mouse and a confirmation on a website and away I went.

I few moments later, a confirmation email arrived, with the dire and threatening note that:

We have added you to our “blacklist”, which means that our newsletter system will refuse to send you any other email, without manual intervention by our administrator.

They’ve blacklisted me?

Any further attempt I may undertake to resubscribe to their newsletter in the future (should I forget how their system works) will be denied as I dared to indicate disinterest in their service at some point in the past.

I know they presumably intended to reassure me that I wouldn’t accidentally receive any more emails, but it ended up sounding more like a threatening message.

What a way to end a relationship.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

Perhaps they know something about you that you don’t?

Considering how dire my memory is at times, that really wouldn’t surprise me.
