Since I started having to go to hospital on a regular basis, it has given me pleasure to send the ward a small xmas hamper each year.
Last December, I found a company which would send a more suitable selection for “sharing” as most hampers are really difficult to break up in a work environment (who gets the jar of chutney?).
Yesterday, went to the hospital for a check-up, as normal (not a good visit for several reasons) and the doctor was embarrassed by the generosity of the present I sent him, so he shared it with the ward.
Now I am embarrassed as it wasn’t for him in the first place, but for the whole ward – of which he is a part.
We are both embarrassed – and both over a complete misunderstanding.
